What is WRDZ?

Introduction
WRDZ are four fundamental steps that have helped me in my personal search for spiritual enlightenment.  The four steps are WAKEN, RECONNECT, DHARMA, and ZEN.  The four steps are spiritual teachings that are mainly taken from Buddhism.

W stands for Waken which is short for the word awaken. Awaken means to wake up. Awake and open our eyes to see our real current state. We need to ask ourselves the honest question, “how is my current life?” Am I happy? Am I always angry? Am I lustful or promiscuous? Am I prideful? Am I jealous? Am I living a self-centered life?  This is not an easy thing to do, because it requires a lot of humbleness and honesty to oneself. Remember these questions are not for you to condemn yourself and start to throw a pity party, it’s only to realize your current state. The waken step is awaken ourselves from this self-suffering state.

Self-centeredness is the ego.  Self-centeredness was the cancer that was plaguing my life and led me to nothing but self-suffering.  This is a syndrome that is unfortunately a normal thing in our past and current society.  Self-centeredness is encouraged in reality series, shows, movies and music.  Everybody wants to be praised and be recognized, but not even that can satisfy the human being.  The human being will always seek and seek for happiness but cannot find it.  The ego is never satisfied, so it starts to seek for satisfaction in drugs, alcohol, sex, hobbies, traveling, eating, shopping, money, power, friends anything that can distract us from our current self-suffering state.  The issue is inward and not outward, it must be dealt within us.  Self-centeredness causes divorces, fights, arguments, self-suffering, isolation, confusion, depression, stress and even death.   This first step is an important step, because it means you are coming to realization of the monster that lives inside of you called the ego, the false self.   The only way you can put the ego to rest is through a special diet called detachment and adopting a pure mind.  Seeking the things that are pure and true, things that are loving, is where your ego starts to deflate and die.  As long as you are practicing self-centeredness, your ego will be fat and strong and its result is self-suffering.

Deep inside of you, you have something special and pure, which is currently sleeping.  That something special inside of you has many names.  Here is a list of names that many religions call it: the “Likeness of God,” the “Buddha Nature,” (Buddha means the Awaken One), the “Divine Nature,” the “Christ Nature,” the “Holy Spirit,” your “Inner Angel,” the “Light.”  There are many names to it, because religions have expressed it with their unique expression. In reality this special pure “Nature” that every religion mention are the same. Therefore for argument sake, and since these steps are based on Buddhist teachings, I will call it Buddha Nature, but feel free to call it what ever you choose.

If you are currently living a self-centered life, then your ego is the god that is fully awake.  Everybody has experienced their “Buddha Nature” when they were babies, which is the only time we were innocent and pure. As an infant, we use to be happy for no reason, just enjoying the simple things of life.   When you entered this world you automatically had the Buddha Nature, but it slowly went to sleep or ignored while we started growing up and developed our own character.  It’s like when you start working out, you gain some muscles, but if you stop working out, those muscles will just shrink, but it doesn’t mean your muscles are gone, it’s just not noticeable anymore.  That is why it is the duty of the parents to teach the child the good path so he or she won’t forget and follow it when they get older.  Your Buddha Nature is your True Self. Your original self. The child-like mind you use to have, which slowly disappeared when you became an adult and developed new characteristics that separated you from your True Self.  Your current “self” is your False Self, its not who you really are.  The goal here is to wake up and realize you need to change.  You need to awaken your Buddha Nature, your True Self.  Your Buddha Nature is God, Your Buddha Nature is the Original Source, its the Creator of the universe, it lives inside of you, that is what made your mind pure from the beginning of time.

Rstands for reconnect to your true self, your Buddha Nature, reconnecting with God.  This can only happen once you come to a full self-realization of the truth of your current flawed state.  There are two steps to reconnecting (1) Making a Sincere Vow and (2) Daily Practice. Making a vow to start living a pure life means to denounce all of our selfish ways and then to practice this everyday.  When you denounce all selfish acts, you will start liberating yourself from the things that causes suffering to your life. This is not an easy task, but when you start to experience the joy and peace from letting go many things you will wish you have done this earlier.  Because prolonging this opportunity, by saying I am not ready for such commitment, you are just adding more karma onto yourself and not ending suffering.  Its like adding more dirt on top of the heap of dirt you have right now, and you are under this dirt, it becomes harder to get up.  It is wise to brush off this dirt and end the cycle of birth and death, by taking heed to this beautiful calling.  You are not led to this website in coincidence, but it was destined.

First steps to reconnecting.  You should sit in Zazen posture.  There are various ways you can sit in Zazen posture. Standing or laying down is not recommended.  Standing doesn’t allow you to fully relax, and laying down allows to fully relax, too much that you can fall asleep and miss the entire experience.
See the picture below for examples:

Before doing this, it is good to show reverence by washing your hands as a sign of purification.  Grab a comfortable pillow and find a quiet place to sit. You can light essence or a candle as a devotion gift to the Divine. When you are settled and seated, you can keep your eyes slightly closed or completely closed. Start breathing in slowly, and breathing out slowly. At this moment, to show reverence again bow down and make your sincere vow.

Here is a simple vow you can follow:

I humbly come to reconnect with You and ask for forgiveness.
I want to start living a pure and honest life.
Help me to denounce all selfish acts and walk the Pure Path.
I vow to follow the Pure Way and seek only want is good.
I vow to treat others with kindness and compassion.
I vow to practice right understanding, right intention, right speech,
right action, right livelihood, right attention, right concentration, right meditation.
I ask this in Your Name. Thank you.

After the vow, you can start meditating.

It is good for you to view the videos I posted on this website on how to meditate and learn about the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.

Meditation is the time for you to absorb your Creators presence which is full of peace, love and compassion, to feel your Buddha Nature, allow your Buddha Nature calm your mind, reveal you great things, to train, sharpen and quieted your thoughts.  Clearing your mind and detaching from everything that concerns you.  Staying quiet and learning how to quiet the mind is essential, this allows mastering your thoughts which takes time of practice and understanding.  Prayer and mediation are essential in your new journey of walking in the good path of purity.

Disconnect from your “False Self” and reconnect with your “True Self.”

Dstands for Dharma means teachings, truth or holy law. The Dharma, the teachings are necessary for good guidance in our walk in the good path.  They are words of wisdom from spiritual teachers that have received the awakening from the Supreme Being because they have submitted completely to the path of purity.  These teachings are designed to encourage us and return us to the Original Source, our Creator at the end of your lifetime.  The Dharma is written to answer questions on how to walk the good path, what to do in order to achieve enlightenment, but all experiences are unique and individual. Personally the Dharma will awaken Infinite Wisdom within you.  The Dharma will help you to manifest the fruits of love, joy, peace, happiness, patience, faithfulness, self-control and long suffering within. Therefore, learning and studying the Dharma, the teachings, the truths are necessary to attain and cultivate the pure way.

Zstands for Zen which is also called Zazen: The special transmission of Zen is the realization of the Buddha Nature that is within you, is enlightenment itself, in one’s own life, in one’s own time.  Central and indispensable to Zen is daily practice. It is this practice that is the “direct pointing to the mind of man.” Zazen melts away the mind-forged distances that separate man from himself; leads one beyond himself as knower, to himself as known. In Zazen, there is no reality outside what exists here and now. Each moment, each act is inherently Buddha Nature. While sorrow and joy, anxiety and imperturbability cannot be avoided, by not clinging to them we find ourselves free of them, no longer pulled this way and that. With this self-mastery comes composure and tranquility of mind, but these are by-products of Zazen rather than its goals.  Zen is not easy to understand, but is practicing the pure life, being mindful of our actions, of what we say, what we do.  Detaching ourselves from everyday mental objects and thoughts that lead to stress, confusion and suffering. Meditating, praying, reading the Dharma on a daily basis is Zen.  It becomes like breathing, you do not realize you are breathing but you know you are breathing while you are sleeping.  It becomes a normal thing for you, a natural thing, a automatic thing for you.  You practice it even when you are tired, sleepy or feel you have no time, it’s important to you like eating and drinking.  It becomes a way of life.  Zazen is the practice of meditation; it is your daily life.  It’s your dedication and determination of practice.

A summary of what WRDZ means:
(1) Waken: Awaken or Wake up and realize the truth of our current flawed mind state, the “ego” which contains passions that will lead us to self-suffering and destruction.

(2) Reconnect: Once we have awaken to self-realization, we must humble ourselves and reconnect with our Buddha Nature which also, means connecting with God, our Creator, the source of Love and Peace which is dormant within us, but is currently sleeping.

(3) Dharma: In order to maintain and cultivate the pure way, we need to read and study the Dharma, which provides us with the tools, to guide us in the good path of enlightenment.

(4) Zen: Practice, practice and practice.  Make it an everyday thing without thinking about it, without forcing it.   Make it a part of your life.  Look at it like air you need in order to breathe, its vital for you to live a pure and happy life.
