Well, love is the center of the path, it's what's inside of us, it is the reason for life and it is life, it is the reason we are alive. As humans we are responsible to live it and spread it in through speech, action and thought. The eightfold path leads to living morally in life, which ultimately is driven by love for our fellow mankind. To not kill for the sake of love, to not treat our brother and sister wrongly for the sake of love, not thinking wrong about our brother and sister for the sake of love, etc. I wasn't too sure how to answer your question, but I hope this was helpful.
